Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation

Dental patient receiving nitrous oxide dental sedation treatment

You’ve probably heard nitrous oxide referred to as “laughing gas.” When mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a nasal mask, this sedative can keep you completely calm and happy throughout your appointment. However, you will not be asleep; you’ll still be able to respond to any requests our team makes. Once the procedure is complete, the effects of the nitrous oxide will wear off quickly, and you’ll be able to drive home yourself.

IV Dental Sedation

When a patient is scheduled to undergo a particularly complex dental procedure and/or struggles with extreme dental anxiety, our team may recommend IV sedation. IV sedation is a stronger form of sedation that is administered intravenously and carefully monitored by our team at all times to ensure your safety and comfort. While this type of sedation won't automatically put you to sleep, it creates a very deep sense of relaxation that typically results in patients hardly remembering anything about their experience in the treatment chair. You will need a trusted friend or family member to take you home following your appointment and keep an eye on you until you've fully recovered from the effects.
